This flirty cocktail was developed in the 1860's and was originally called the Milano-Torino because its main ingredients, Campari and vermouth, represented the two regions.  However, by the early 1900's Italians saw what a hit the drink was with Americans and they renamed it to honor their international friends.  Since those early days the drink has gained quite a bit of popularity and was even featured in Ian Fleming's first short story about James Bond, Casino Royale.  In fact, it was the first drink the character ordered.  See if you think this classic beats out the perennial Bond drink, a shaken martini.
