Mario once said that every culture has their own version of a doughnut. The Italians are no different, and if you haven't tried these fried zeppoles than you are missing out. The small fried dough balls are infinitely adaptable - they can be served with powdered sugar or filled with custards or a butter and honey mixture or even an anchovy paste. The texture ranges too from light and flaky to a more bread-like consistency. Most importantly they're delicious and easy to make.
