This tasty Italian dessert is a true classic and a favorite of ours here at The Chew.  The word literally translates to "pick me up" in English and with its sweet layers of ladyfingers and marscarpone and the strong coffee and liqueur taste it's easy to see why.

The origins of this dessert are little unclear.  Some say that cake originated in Sienna and was created to honor Cosimo III while others content that it originated in Venice by Carminantonio Iannaccone.  Either way it was firmly planted in popular culture by 1982 when Webster's dictionary added it into it's newest volume.
