Glamorous Oscar Party Looks

  • By The Chew Crew

Joined by TLC’s What Not To Wear hair and makeup gurus, Carmindy and Ted, Clinton shares award-winning tips to make you look glamorous without breaking the bank. This trendy trio makes over three Chew audience members to debut three different red carpet fashions, hair styles, and makeup looks, inspired by three iconic looks.

To Steal Helen Mirren’s Look: Styled like Helen Mirren, audience member Lynda shows that you can look sexy at any age.

Clinton’s Style Tip: Clinton emphasized the importance of appropriate undergarments. There is no shame in shapewear, as he said, and you should consider your undergarments in any dress you’re wearing. Clinton finishes the look with a bracelet by Tacori.

Ted’s Hair Tip: When it came to styling Lynda’s hair, Ted cut off about 10 inches. While older women certainly aren’t limited to short hair, Ted thought shoulder length would be the most flattering for Lynda. Also, he added layers to Lynda’s hair for shape and volume.

Carmindy’s Makeup Tip: "Carmindize" the face. Carmindy dressed up Lynda’s face by carmindizing it, meaning she blended a shimmering powder highlighter under Lynda’s brows, on the inner corners of her eyes, and on the cheekbones, to bring light and radiance to the face.

To Steal Zoe Saldana’s Look:  Audience member Jevne was styled to resemble Zoe Saldana.

Clinton’s Style Tip: Clinton dressed Jevne in a one sleeve asymmetrical Calvin Klein number and he paired the dress with one bold accessory. If you’re going for a dress that has an interesting shape like this one, consider a statement piece to tie the look together. Clinton tops off this look with a clutch by Farbod.

Ted’s Hair Tip: Ted styled Jevne’s hair in a sleek and simple updo. Don’t be afraid of a 1960’s inspired look, as Ted thinks it’s very much in style!

Carmindy’s Makeup Tip: Carmindy gave Jevne an intense smoky eye. Here’s how to replicate this look at home:

1. Line the eyes with black pencil
2. Brush a grey eye shadow along the lid and lower lash line
3. Dust a granite hue in the crease
4. Highlight under the brow and inner corners of the eye
5. Voila!

To Steal Jennifer Lawrence’s Look: Audience member Carly is styled like Jennifer Lawrence on the Golden Globes red carpet this year.

Clinton’s Style Tip: Clinton added a distinctive belt to Carly’s red dress, and suggests wearing a belt at the narrowest part of the waist. When a belt hits at this spot, it draws attention to your smallest feature, and therefore, is the most flattering. Clinton finishes the look with earrings by Tacori and a clutch by Farbod.

Ted’s Hair Tip: Ted styled Carly’s hair with delicate curls. To achieve this look, Ted recommended using the right size iron depending on the size of the curls you’re going for. Also, Ted added a few hair extensions for length and volume.

Carmindy’s Makeup Tip: Red Lip Statement. When going for a punch of color on the lips, look for the right shade for your skin tone. Don’t be afraid to test a few different colors before selecting one to purchase – swipe the shade over white paper to see the true hue. Here's a guide to choosing the right shade for you:

If your skin is fair, a blue-based red like cherry works well.

If your skin is medium, a true red like fire engine red works well.

If your skin is dark, a blood red will complement your coloring. If you’re a red head, don’t run the other way – tomato red will look lovely!
