Daphne's Natural Insect Repellent

  • By
Summer's here and that means it's time beak out the bikinis, the beach towels and the bug spray.  Those pesky critters that sneak up in the middle of summer can really ruin your day.  Daphne's got a great homemade spray that will keep them away without making you smell like chemicals.  Find out how to make it.

What You Need:
1 cup Distilled Water
3 tablespoons Dried Lavender
1 tablespoon Cloves
2 tablespoons Dried Peppermint
2 tablespoons Dried Peppermint (if you only have one variety of mint, simply double the measurement)
1 cup Rubbing Alcohol
1 Stem Fresh Citronella

How to Make It:
1. Bring distilled water to a boil in a small saucepan. As soon as it's bubbling, crush citronella in your fingers and add, with dried herbs, to the water.

2. Remove from heat and cover.

3. Allow mixture to steep until it's completely cool. Add rubbing alcohol. Line a strainer with a coffee filter and pour into a spray bottle.

4. Store in a cool place.
