Last Bites: February 4, 2013

  • By The Chew Crew

On today’s Last Bites the cohosts discuss the classic American favorite: Hot Pockets. Michael recreates these savory pastries on today’s “How’d They Make That” series with succulent short ribs, creamy Gruyere cheese, and sautéed vegetables. While completely made-over, Michael’s version does share a resemblance to the comforting pastries that have been around for ages.  In fact, Michael’s secret recipe reminds Daphne of her days in college when she used to date a guy on the crew team. In order to maintain their weight, the men on the team had to consume close to “5,000 calories a day,” jokes Daphne, and one of their go-to meals was Hot Pockets. Now, Daphne doesn’t mean he would eat one hot pocket and call it a day; he would eat five hot pockets as a snack after practice. Downing five of those bad boys a day, Daphne’s college boyfriend had a real taste for hot pockets, and we wonder what he would have to say about Michael’s homemade version.
