Interested in hosting a New Year's Eve soiree, but anxious about the high price tag? On today’s Last Bites, the co-hosts demystify the expensive label of New Year's Eve gatherings. The entire spread, including dinner and hors d’oeuvres, clocks in at just $100 for ten guests, while the same meal at a restaurant would be significantly more expensive. To keep costs as low as ten dollars per head, ask your guests to supply one or two bottles of wine, and you will be set until the ball drops. In addition to the low cost of at-home celebrations, the co-hosts also point out that restaurants typically debut new menus on the 31st that may not be as practiced or refined as their usual selections. Restaurants may be operating on a trial and error basis the day of, which delays the meal long into the night. For this reason, the co-hosts recommend hosting a festive party to reign in the New Year, or sticking with a trusted restaurant that won’t disappoint.
