The girls of Georgetown Cupcake know how to make an adorable cupcake and this hamburger version is just another example. Check out their how to and make some of your own for your next kid's party, barbecue or just because.
What You Need:
How to Make It:
Start by baking 1 dozen vanilla cupcakes and 1 dozen chocolate cupcakes. You can use your own recipes or try our vanilla and chocolate cupcakes recipes from the DC Cupcakes website or in our cookbook The Cupcake Diaries: Recipes and Memories from the Sisters of Georgetown Cupcake.
Once your vanilla cupcakes are cooled, slice them in half, across the middle, so that the top half is your top “bun” and the bottom half is your bottom “bun”.
Once your chocolate cupcakes are cooled, slice them in half, across the middle, so that the bottom half is your “hamburger patty”. (You can eat the top halves or save them for later!)
Place your chocolate cupcake slice on top of your bottom bun.
To make your frosting “lettuce”, “ketchup”, and “mustard” condiments, whip up some buttercream frosting and divide the buttercream in three small bowls. (You can use your own recipe or try our buttercream recipe on the DC Cupcakes website – or in our cookbook The Cupcake Diaries: Recipes and Memories from the Sisters of Georgetown Cupcake.) To each bowl, add several drops of green, red, and yellow food coloring, respectively. Mix the frostings so that you have a green-tinted buttercream, a red-tinted buttercream, and a yellow-tinted buttercream. Place the frostings into three piping bags, each fitted with a narrow round tip.
To decorate your cupcake hamburger patty with the condiments – frost a squiggle pattern of green buttercream across the surface and around the edge of the chocolate cupcake sliced, to create an edge of lettuce. Repeat with the yellow red buttercream to create the ketchup and the yellow buttercream to create the mustard.
Place the top vanilla cupcake half on top, to form the top bun. Using a pastry brush, brush the top half of the vanilla cupcake with ¼ teaspoon of piping gel, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. If you don’t have sesame seeds, you can alternatively use some white nonpareils.
Repeat for each cupcake! Serve on a tray, and enjoy!
