Quitting smoking isn't easy. After years of smoking, Michael decided to give it up and get healthier. And there's no shortage of reasons - quitting not only improves your taste buds and helps you lose weight, but it also makes your body younger (not to mention healtheir)!
Michael admitted that he went cold turkey and successfully quit for many weeks, but has had the occasional cigarette since then. To help deal with that, he's looking for tips that aid with cravings and setbacks. Cleveland Clinic’s Dr. Michael Roizen is here to help. Check out his tips to make the process easier:
1. Don’t Quit Cold Turkey. Only 1-2% of people successfully do this. Instead, use a stop smoking program. The success rates for these are 30-60%.
2. Get a new addiction - like walking!
3. Follow The “6 Es” to Cope with Cravings: Extinguish, Evade, Escape (in other words, avoid situations with cigarettes in them), Exercise, Explain (talk about your struggles!) and Eliminate Tension (try deep breathing - it works!).
