Tree Trimmings: How to Decorate Your Tree

Tree Trimmings: How to Decorate Your Tree

tips and tricks, december, 12-5-11

The Christmas tree is an essential part of this holiday’s decoration.  Before you run out and pick one up check out some of Clinton’s tips.

Selecting Your Tree
First thing is first decide whether you want artificial or real.  If it’s a real tree it’s important to set it up away from heat, fireplaces and windows with sun exposure.  Trees are flammable and the heat dries them out.  Then determine where your tree is going to be displayed in your home.

Begin With Lights
Start at the top and wind the lights around the tree from the inside out.  This adds depth and dimension.

Filler It Up
Clinton used sprayed painted pinecones, but you can use other items.  Then just fill in the blank spaces.

Garlands, Ribbon, Ornaments Oh My
Try using a patterned ribbon and a plain one.  This will add texture and contrast.

Personalize your tree with your own ornaments.  Making them is easy and fun.  To make them just buy an empty glass ball ornament.  They are a dollar a piece at the craft store.  Then apply a dime sized drop of glaze and your favorite paint and swirl.  You can pick up this glaze at your local hardware store.  If you have trouble finding it ask your sales clerk.
