Tyler is out of meds and his world is crumbling

The beginning of the end started with Emily stealing back the Shamu-cam from Tyler. This is the same cam that contained all of that incriminating footage Tyler was so keen on having. In her investigation, Emily discovered that Tyler had a brother in San Francisco.

Nolan flew the good doctor in to take care of his psychotic sibling

The brother was on his way, but not before Tyler could stir up some trouble. Nolan was confronted by a knife-wielding Tyler when he arrived home the night of Daniel’s party. The clearly unstable Mr. Barrol demanded all copies of the videos on the whale-cam, which just happened to be on the mantle at Emily’s house. Tyler cuts Nolan’s arm, then watched Emily place her gun in her desk from the whale-cam playing on Nolan’s laptop. He needed to pay Emily a little visit, but not before tying up a wounded Nolan.
