Unfortunately this was a book of lies and that’s how he got onto Emily’s radar. Jump to this episode and Mason was scheduled to give a reading of his new unpublished memoir at Grayson Manor. The reason he could score such a great venue was because Victoria and him go way back. In fact, all the way back to when he was writing his bestselling book. She had bribed him to deviate from the truth and print a pack of lies about David Clarke.
She tasked him to have a chat with Amanda. She needed to know why she was back. Victoria thought that Mason could get this info out of her, after all he was the person who got a lot of information out of her when she was nine by gaining her trust.
Emily got Nolan to express interest in having Mason Treadwell write his biography. This was so Nolan, with Emily in tow, could get a tour of his cabin; a covert scouting mission of sorts. While there, Emily saw the lone copy of his unpublished memoir atop his desk, an array of rare first-edition books, and the collection of videotapes from all the interviews he did to research David Clarke’s story.
Emily learned that Mason would be “interviewing Amanda.” What he was really doing is trying to figure out what she was doing in the Hamptons at the behest of Victoria. During the interview, Emily fed Amanda lines of dialogue through a hidden earpiece. Emily gave Mason one last chance to come clean at the upcoming reading of his memoir. Unfortunately for Mason, he opted to stick to his lies rather than recant.
Mason had his chance, now it was time for Emily to act. She had Nolan occupy Mason while she broke into his cabin, stole his videotapes, then lit one of Mason’s cigarettes and placed it on top of the lone copy of his memoir. He returned to see his entire life, along with his new memoir, up in flames.
