As a teenager she was locked up in a juvenile detention center and shared a cell with a girl named Emily Thorne. At first they hated each other, but these two eventually became friends. After they were both released, Amanda had a proposition for Emily; Amanda would pay Emily to completely switch identities with her. Amanda, being a good friend and in need of some cash, took the deal.
