August and Henry had plans. The Stranger snuck into Mr. Gold’s shop to poke around, and ended up getting caught. When Mr. Gold returned the favor by breaking into August’s room at Granny’s, he found a sketch of the dagger that held control over him in Fairy Tale Land. This led Mr. Gold to believe that The Stranger was really his estranged son, Baelfire, who had traveled to our world in hopes of going someplace where his father would no longer be cursed. For a while it seemed like Gold may actually be right, but when The Stranger tried to use the dagger to control Rumplestiltskin, it became clear that he was NOT Baelfire. He admitted to a wrathful Gold/Rumplestiltskin that he was from Fairy Tale Land, and that he was sick and only magic could heal him. Well, that or convincing Emma that she is, in fact, the Savior and breaking The Curse.
