Everyone in town knows that going into business with Mr. Gold is a bad idea, but many of its citizens seem to have no choice. When people get desperate, they turn to this local pawn broker for help. But Mr. Gold always seems to come out with the better end of the bargain. Some of his illicit activities include:

- Setting a fire in the Mayor’s office to sway a local election
- Illegally detaining and beating a man he suspected of breaking into his home

While Sheriff Swan wasn’t able to prove the arson charge, she did arrest Mr. Gold for kidnapping and assault. Surely Mr. Gold has been up to more shady dealings, but he’s quite clever and knows how to skirt the law without actually breaking it. Or, at least, making sure no one can prove it when he does.
