In “That Still Small Voice,” Rumplestiltskin seemed to be working as some sort of Fairy Tale Land fence, buying stolen items from Jiminy and his thieving parents with golden thread he would spin from straw. Sensing desperation in Jiminy, he made a deal with him for a magic potion. What the potion would do, exactly, Rumplestiltskin never explained. He told Jiminy only to expose his parents to it and leave them behind for him to pick up as his fee. As it turned out, the potion turned anyone it touched into a wooden puppet, but it wasn’t Jiminy’s con-artist parents that were exposed to it, but rather young Gepetto’s innocent mother and father.
