In the wake of Grahamβs sudden and tragic death, Storybrooke needed a new Sheriff and Emma assumed that, as the only Deputy, she was up for the job. But Regina had other ideas. After she tried to unilaterally name Sidney Glass the new Sheriff, Mr. Gold stepped forward with the town charter to help Emma force an election. After Emma rescued Regina from a fire in her office, the election seemed to be all sewn up, but when Ms. Swan found out that Mr. Gold had set the fire to help her win, she decided she had to come clean. At the debate, she exposed Goldβs plot, shocking everyone and presumably losing her shot at beating Regina. But, to her surprise, her honesty and willingness to stand up to Mr. Gold won the town over and got her elected. It looked like Emma and Reginaβs working relationship wasnβt going to be over quite so soon.
