Snow White’s father, King Leopold, stumbles upon an old oil lamp along the shore and, when he rubs it, a Genie appears, ready to grant him three wishes. But the King says he’s already very happy and has pretty much everything he could ever want, so he frees the Genie and uses his second wish to give the third and final wish to the Genie. He takes the Genie back to his castle and they become friends. But the Genie is smitten by the young, beautiful and neglected Queen Regina. It becomes clear he would do anything to be with her, but she is despairing at the marriage she feels trapped in. She tries to kill herself by placing her hand in a box with a poisonous viper and the Genie can’t take it. He says he will eliminate King Leopold and the two of them can be free together. He places the snake in the King’s bed and by morning the monarch is dead.
But before long the guards realize that the snake killed the King, and the snake was an Agrabah Viper, hailing from the same homeland as the Genie. With the guards closing in, Regina reveals that the two of them could never be together—in fact, that was all part of her plan! But the Genie’s infatuation with the Queen will not be denied. He uses his wish to always be by Regina’s side and suddenly his visage is transported to Regina’s hand mirror. Thus, the Magic Mirror is created.
