Cora speaks to her daughter in her chambers, telling her how she should take control of the kingdom now that she is to be Queen, when she notices the large, wrapped gift. She asks Regina what it is and her daughter tells her it's a wedding gift. Cora opens it to reveal a large, familiar-looking mirror (see
"Hat Trick"). Regina knows now is her only chance. She tries to push Cora into the mirror, but her mother stops her. Irate, Cora turns to Regina and demands to know what's going on. A reflection of Rumplestiltskin appears in the looking glass, urging Regina to push. Regina summons a magical force that slams into her mother, sending her hurtling through the mirror. The next day, Regina is riding, finally free from her mother's control, when Rumplestiltskin stops her. She offers him the spell book back, but he doesn't seem to want it. Regina realizes that the magic in the book corrupted her mother and it was beginning to corrupt her as well. But she had to admit that using magic felt so very good. Rumplestiltskin manages to tempt Regina into learning more magic, but she insists she doesn't want to become her mother.
