Young Regina is galloping through the forest, clearly running away, when all of the sudden the very trees and vines around her hold her aloft. Her mother,
Cora, chastises her daughter for trying to run away before her wedding to
King Leopold. Cora shows Regina her book of magic spells and tells her that once she is Queen, she can share in that power. Regina doesn't want it, or to be Queen, but she doesn't really have a choice. Later, when her mother's asleep, Regina steals the book and summons the person who gave it to Cora:
Rumplestiltskin. Rumple offers Regina a way out from under her mother's thumb: a gift that Regina merely has to push Cora through to transport her far away to a land where she won't be able to hold power over her any longer.
