A fire also breaks out in Storybrooke as Emma is confronting Regina about a story she had Sidney run in the paper. Ms. Swan saves the Mayor from the fire, impressing the townspeople. But Emma puts together that the fire was no accident—it was set by Mr. Gold. When she confronts him, he practically admits it, but tells her she has no choice but to play along if she wants to beat Regina. But at the debate, Emma's conscience wins out and she comes clean about everything. To everyone's surprise, she gets elected anyway! It turns out the people of Storybrooke like the idea of a Sheriff that can stand up to Mr. Gold. But when Mr. Gold shows up to congratulate her on her victory, it becomes clear that the whole thing was his plan. It turns out the value of the favor she owes him just went up.
