With Regina’s plan to rid herself of Mary Margaret foiled, she turns to Jefferson (The Mad Hatter), whom she’s dealt with in the past, having used him and his magical hat to transport her and her father out of Wonderland and abandoning him to the cruelty of the Queen of Hearts. Jefferson is one of the only people in Storybrooke who knows the truth—the other being Mr. Gold—and he hates Regina, but he makes a deal with her in order to be reunited with his daughter. Regina sacrifices a magical memento of her beloved Daniel to retrieve the poisoned apple she used on Snow White from Fairy Tale Land and bakes it into a turnover, which she gives to Emma as a peace offering. Emma has finally decided that she needs to leave Storybrooke so that Henry can get on with his life and over his obsession with fairy tales, but when he sees the turnover he takes a bite, knowing what it will do, in order to convince Emma that he’s telling the truth. He collapses and Emma begins to understand.
