Once it becomes clear that Emma isn’t leaving town quickly, Regina—who is the town’s Mayor and clearly intimidates pretty much everyone—does just about anything to convince Emma to leave. The two of them go toe-to-toe over what’s best for Henry and whether or not Emma even has a right to be a part of his life, and it all makes Emma decide she has to put down roots in Storybrooke. She even begins to form a connection with Sheriff Graham, who hires her as his deputy, but Regina has been secretly seeing Graham as well. When Emma and Graham kiss, he begins to remember his life as The Huntsman in Fairy Tale Land and the fact that Regina, as The Evil Queen, tore out his heart and kept him as her unwilling servant. Regina finds Emma and Graham trying to break into the secret vault she has hidden in her family crypt and she and Emma finally come to blows. Graham breaks up the fight, choosing to leave with Emma, and Regina steals down to her secret vault where she pulls Graham/The Huntsman’s heart out of box and crushes it. Across town in the Storybrooke sheriff’s station, Graham suddenly dies in Emma’s arms.
