The Vow
With his new powers, Rumplestiltskin transformed from the village coward to a fearsome and unpredictable creature. He would kill others for only the slightest hint of a transgression. Yet he remained loving and protective toward Baelfire. The boy, worried for his father, made him promise that if he could find a way to safely take Rumplestiltskin's powers away, he would agree to it. Rumple agreed to the bargain. Baelfire sought help and found it in the form of The Blue Fairy, who gave him a magic bean that would open a portal to a land without magic, where his father's powers, and his curse, would be gone. Baelfire took his father out to the woods and used the bean. A vortex opened in the earth and began to pull Baelfire in. But Rumplestiltskin couldn't bear to go through and become the powerless coward he had been before. He abandoned a furious Baelfire to the vortex. Immediately he regretted abandoning his son and summoned The Blue Fairy, who told him there was no way for him to follow his son now. Rumplestiltskin, filled with fury and hatred toward The Blue Fairy, swore he would find a way to be reunited with his son, even if he had to create the most powerful curse ever conceived.
