When a second stranger came to town, August Booth, Ruby’s wanderlust intensified. He told her stories of the world beyond Storybrooke and she wanted an adventure of her own. This led to a fight with Granny and Ruby quitting her job there. Ruby took on a job answering phones at the Sheriff’s Station for Emma, which led to her investigating a crime scene. Using some growing instincts, Ruby discovered a buried jewelry box at the old toll bridge, which had a human heart inside of it. Tests confirmed that the heart belonged to Kathryn Nolan, forcing Emma to arrest her best friend, Mary Margaret. Ruby had been so shocked by the experience, she decided she’d had enough adventure and took her job back at Granny’s.
