Red had fallen in love with Peter, a local boy who promised to run away with her. She had planned to do just that when she discovered Snow White, on the run from The Evil Queen, hiding behind her cottage. She and Granny took Snow in, with Granny cautioning her that it wasn’t safe to be about during Wolfstime. A vicious, giant wolf had been stalking the nearby forest, killing men and beasts alike. When Red and Snow stumbled upon the wolf’s latest slaughter, they tracked it until its tracks turned into a human’s! They deduced that Peter was the wolf. They tied him up that night and Ruby guarded him while Snow went back to the cottage. When Granny discovered Snow instead of Red, she dashed out into the forest, crossbow in-hand. Peter was not the wolf, Red was! The cloak had an enchantment on it that kept her from turning, but when she kept taking it off, Wolfstime took hold. Red, as the wolf, devoured Peter before Snow and Granny could get the cloak back on Red. Shocked at what she’d done and that Granny had lied to her, Red and Snow ran away.
