Mary Margaret (Snow White) is an elementary school teacher in Storybrooke, Maine, who loves her job and loves her students, but hasn’t been able to find romance. When she gives Henry, one of her favorite students and the adopted son of Mayor Regina Mills (The Evil Queen), a book of fairy tales, he begins to see that everyone in the town is really a fairy tale character trapped there by a Curse cast by The Evil Queen. He brings his birth mother, Emma Swan, back to Storybrooke and she and Mary Margaret get along right away—maybe it’s because they’re actually mother and daughter! Mary Margaret bails Emma out of jail and invites her to come live in her apartment. The two are constantly confiding in one another and giving each other advice, creating one of the strongest relationships in Emma’s life.
