As David’s memory slowly returns, he can’t help but feel a deep attraction to Mary Margaret and much less affection for his wife, Kathryn. Mary Margaret resists, but eventually the two of them begin seeing each other in secret. Things break off when David finds out that Kathryn thought she may have been pregnant—she tells him that they had been trying before his accident. Even so, neither of them can fight their need to be together and they dramatically kiss in the alley behind Granny’s diner, where a rueful Regina looks on.
