1989: Things with the mob were not getting any less dangerous, so Duke testified against the mob and then faked his death and went into witness protection. Anna was crushed. After the death of mob boss Victor Jerome, Duke returned to town with a new face (don't ask), but that wouldn't last long. He was killed (seemingly for real this time) just as Anna learned his identity.
