Max has been a longtime loyal bodyguard for Sonny Corinthos, which puts him in danger constantly. But through assassination attempts, hostage crises, even a crush on the boss's wife, Carly, Max has been a strong, loyal, yet also kind-hearted presence in Sonny's life. Away from the job, Max's deceptively energetic amorous side has attracted the likes of Diane Miller.

After appearing on TV shows like Ally McBeal and movies like Frailty, Mr. Cheetwood was cast to play affable bodyguard Max Giambetti on General Hospital. Mr. Cheetwood, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio, is the cousin of fellow GH actor Tyler Christopher (Nikolas), and in 2006, his real-life brother Drew was cast to play his onscreen brother, Milo Giambetti. Mr. Cheetwood is married to Cari Costner (niece of actor Kevin Costner), with whom he has one child.
