A typical, All-American kid with a caring family and a passion for baseball, 23-year-old Alex enjoyed an ideal childhood with loving parents and two younger brothers who loved going to baseball games together. However, his life has not been without its obstacles and challenges.
Alex's family has always been what he calls "fast food junkies." They've collectively struggled with their weight. Matters got much worse when he learned his mother was dying from cancer. Food became a major comfort for Alex during this challenging time, and although he was heavy to begin with, his weight spiraled out of control. Alex made a promise to his mother that he would get healthy and lose the weight. But since her passing, he has struggled to uphold that promise.
Alex's weight impacts his life in several ways. At home he can't fit through the bathroom door and must squeeze in sideways. Alex's father has asked him to be the best man at his upcoming wedding, but hesitated to say "yes" because tuxedoes aren't made in his size.
Alex wants to be a role model for his two teen brothers, who are experiencing their own health problems. He knows that it's imperative for him to change his ways to set the right example. Go, Alex, go!
