![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

For Fusion Week Shawn danced with former partner Mark Ballas as Derek was recuperating from an injury. Their dance was the "Tango/Paso Doble" and Shawn brought great character to the dance and executed the staccato movements well. The judges rewarded their efforts with a perfect score.
