![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

Week 5 brought Guilty Pleasures to the ballroom and Shawn and Derek danced a Rumba to "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. Shawn was worried that the dance was contrary to how she had been trained in gymnastics to not show any emotion. After some challenging practices, her work paid off as the couple scored yet another 10, this time from Bruno.

Bruno was impressed: "You were emotionally connected like I've never seen you before...touching and romantic."
