![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

For the second week of the competition Shawn and Derek picked up the pace, dancing a Jive to "The Nicest Kids in Town" from the musical Hairspray. Their performance ranked them in third place for the night.
