![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

Week 5 meant Guilty Pleasures week, and Melissa and Tony performed a Tango to "Toxic" by Britney Spears. Melissa was excited during rehearsals since she had never done a Tango before and really wanted to take this dance to the top of the leaderboard. The judges liked the dance, but as the competition was getting more intense their good dance wasn't great enough for first place.

Carrie Ann loved Melissa's character, commenting, "Tonight you were absolutely gritty, absolutely in the character."
