![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

For their Iconic Dance night, Melissa and Tony decided that they wanted to tackle a Samba, in fact, the Samba that JR Martinez had performed in Season 13, to the "Conga" by Gloria Estefan. Out of the gate, Melissa had the audience wowed with her deep knee bends and gyrating hip action and it just keep going. The judges were wowed, awarding triple 9's and putting this pair at the top of the leaderboard.

Len surprised us all with this remark: "That was like a can of cola -- it was fizzy, it was refreshing, it was satisfying..."
