![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

Melissa and Tony returned to the ballroom in Week 2 with a Jive to "Shout" by the Isley Brothers. Melissa had been unable to perform the Jive during her prior time on DWTS due to an injury so she was determined to redeem herself, and the judges were impressed.

Bruno commented: "Melissa, the fastest girl in town...that was one of the greatest Jives I've ever seen. The routine was excellent."
