![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

During Iconic Dance week, Kelly proved that she and Val were up for a challenge. In fact, it was a challenge close to home as the couple chose to reinterpret Val's brother Maks' famous Paso Doble (done with Mel B) to "Espana Cani" by Erich Kunzel. The couple took the dance to a new level, and the risk paid off as they earned their first 9's of the season and landed on top of the leaderboard.

Carrie Ann commented, "You smacked that Paso's booty," while Bruno remarked that he was "tingling with pleasure" after watching the dance.
