![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

The couples had two full dances to perform during Week 8: one dance with their partner, and a Trio dance, which added a second professional dancer into the mix. Emmitt and Cheryl first performed a Viennese Waltz to "Love Letters" by Ketty Lester, and then a trio Salsa with Kym Johnson to "Mr. Saxobeat" by Alexandra Stan. Emmitt was challenged in rehearsals with the Trio dance - as he stated, "Dancing with two women can be complicated." Nevertheless, he impressed the judges, earning a perfect score for his Trio!
