![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

During week 4, Emmit & Cheryl were assigned the Bolero. Emmitt felt challenged in rehearsals as he had to try a show a different, elegant side of himself in the ballroom. He was committed to working hard and his efforts paid off, with his highest scores to date.
