![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

For the third week of the competition the couples were charged with recreating an "iconic dance" from a prior season of DWTS. Emmitt and Cheryl did a Paso Doble to "Cancion Del Mariachi" by Los Lobo & Antonio Banderas, originally danced by Karina and Mario. Len had told the All-Stars that he was looking for something that hadn't been done before, and Emmitt delivered, becoming a "human torpedo" on the dance floor. The judges were wowed. Emmitt was back.

Bruno reviewed the dance with these comments: "The amazing bull is back. You were so tough and so strong...you're back into the game big time."
