![For the first time ever, the "Contemporary" dance style was performed as part of the competition. Kelly and Val brought true emotional storytelling to the dance floor with their routine to "Fix You," by Coldplay, and it paid off. Kelly remarked during rehearsals, "[Val's] teaching me how to trust again...it's kind of amazing."

During Week 8, the couples knew there was going to be a double elimination and felt the pressure. Each All-Star couple had to perform two dances, and Apolo and Karina had the Tango (to "Holding Out for a Hero," by Bonnie Tyler) and a Jive Trio (to "Greased Lightning" from Grease). Apolo was determined not to play it safe, and entered the ballroom (another first) on a zip line for the Tango! The hard work paid off with great scores from the judges.
