Season 15 | Episode 1508 | Aired 11/12/2012

It’s a salute to veterans with military personnel enjoying the dances from the front row. Each team does two routines. The first involves the couple only. The second is a trio dance where another pro or member of the dance troupe joins in. The scores are tallied together and added to last week’s scores for one grand total as the teams look to avoid the double elimination that’s headed their way in the Results Show.

Shawn & Derek: After Mark had to pinch hit last week, Shawn is reunited with Derek for their Viennese Waltz to Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.” Len says this was a quiet, gentle dance that was poignant and fabulous. Bruno agrees and says the shapes and figures were fantastic. Carrie Ann says Shawn has turned into a rich, in-depth performer. Scores of 10, 9.5 and 10 gives them a 29.5 for their first dance.

Mark Ballas is back to join Shawn and Derek in a samba for their trio dance. The crowd goes wild for this wild routine. However, Len says the dance was very self-indulgent with very little samba content. Bruno says he thought it was a fantastic dance as a piece of art, but even he has to admit that it wasn’t really a samba. Carrie Ann completely disagrees because what little samba they did was executed with perfection. Scores of 10, 7 and 9 gives them a total of 26 for this second dance.

Apolo & Karina: It’s tango time for Apolo and Karina complete with a zip-line entrance from the Olympic champ. Bruno says it was a daredevil of a dance that was like Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible. Carrie Ann loved Apolo’s lines in a fantastic dance. Len says his frame got a bit wide, but there was a full-on attack to the dance. Scores of 10, 9.5 and 10 gives them a 29.5 for this first dance.

Troupe dancer Sasha joins Apolo and Karina for their jive to “Greased Lightning.” Bruno thought Apolo took a huge risk by trying to mirror a pro, but he conquered it brilliantly. Carrie Ann saw a mishap, but still thinks Apolo has never shined brighter. Len thought the dance was exactly what you want to see in a jive. Scores of 9.5, 9.5 and 10 gives them a total of 29 for their trio dance.

Kirstie & Maks: This team takes on the Viennese Waltz for their first dance. Carrie Ann thought this was one of Kirstie’s best dances, but would like to see more difficulty in the next one. Len agrees that this was her best dance so far. Bruno thought it was a very stylish, well-done dance. Trip 9s gives this team a total of 27 for this first dance.

Tristan joins Kirstie and Maks to make up their trio for a paso doble. Carrie Ann loved the theme and presentation, but the dance was a little sloppy. Len liked the attitude, but it lacked finesse here and there. Bruno thought it felt a bit surreal, but it could have been a bit more refined. Trip 8s gives them a total of 24 for this trio dance.

Kelly & Valentin: It’s time for Kelly and Valentin to show their stuff in a Viennese Waltz. Len enjoyed the flow of it, but didn’t always enjoy the movement. He would have liked it to be a little more lyrical. Bruno thought the dance had wonderful drive. Carrie Ann loves that Kelly is always pushing herself to the edge and she completely disagrees with Len’s assessment. Scores of 9.5, 9 and 9.5 gives them a total of 28 for their first dance.

Louis joins Kelly and Val for their jive in the trio dance. Len says it was fun, flamboyant and fantastic. Bruno thought Kelly led the men well. Carrie Ann thought the transitions were seamless. Scores of 9.5, 9.5 and 9.5 gives them a 28.5 for their trio dance score.

Gilles & Peta: This dancing duo does one of the quickest-moving quicksteps ever as they dance into the “Danger Zone.” Bruno says Gilles took off like an F-18 in a Top Gun performance. Carrie Ann felt it was so close but there were a few wobbles in the feet. Len says Gilles had energy and control in a thunder and lightning routine. Scores of 9.5, 10 and 10 gives them a total of 29.5 for their first dance.

Chelsie joins Gilles and Peta for their salsa in the trio dance. Bruno says Gilles’ intent in taking care of the ladies in the dance caused him to lose timing a few times. Carrie Ann agrees but she loved how he took control of the floor. Len felt Gilles exposed himself in the best possible way with this dance. Scores of 9.5, 10 and 9.5 gives them a total of 29 for this trio dance.

Emmitt & Cheryl: The team does a smooth, flowing Viennese Waltz to the tune of “Love Letters.” Carrie Ann thought it was a smooth, effective dance but she wants to see Emmitt push himself more and get out of the comfort zone. Len says Emmitt puts the “oooo” in smooth. Bruno said it was a smart, classic dance even though there was a bit of a stumble. Scores of 9, 9.5 and 9.5 gives them a total of 28 for the first round.

Kym Johnson joins Emmitt and Cheryl for their salsa. Carrie Ann says Emmitt went from the comfort zone to the red hot zone. Len liked the choreography combined with great rhythm and musicality. Bruno loved the naturalness Emmitt brought to the dance. Three 10s gives this team a perfect 30 for their trio dance.

Melissa & Tony: It’s another super quick quickstep from this team. Len says that this dance was the bee’s knees. Bruno says it was like watching Ann Miller and Gene Kelly. The dance made him want to join the navy. Carrie Ann salutes this dancing duo. Three 10s gives Melissa and Tony their first perfect 30.

Troupe dancer Henry joins Melissa and Tony for their paso in the trio dance. Len says that out of all the celebrities, Melissa impresses him the most. Bruno thought the dance was a thing of beauty. Carrie Ann says Melissa totally owned that paso. Scores of 10, 10,10 gives them another perfect 30!
