Melissa & Tony: In a scientist’s lab setting, Melissa spins out of a giant wheel and into Tony’s arms for their tango to “Toxic” by Britney Spears. Len thought they were crisp and sharp in a well done dance. Bruno thought the dance was intoxicating and they saw a side of Melissa they’d like to see more of in the future. Carrie Ann agrees with her fellow judges regarding the performance she saw, but all three judges know that any minor faults were likely due to Melissa’s injury. Trip 9s gives them a total of 27 for their individual routine and an overall total of 56.6 when combined with their team dance score.
Shawn & Derek: Shawn has trained to keep her emotions in check as a gymnast. Derek encourages her to finally let those emotions out as they do their rumba to “My Heart Will Go On.” She does just that in a theatrical dance that has Derek doing his best Jack from Titanic impression at the end as he disappears below the fog. Bruno loved the ever-changing shapes and loved the emotional connection of their romantic dance. Carrie Ann loved the dance, but gets booed when she criticizes the lift. Len says there was no hip action in a clipped routine that wasn’t really a rumba. Scores of 9, 8 and 10 gives them a total of 27 for their individual routine and a grand total of 56.5 when combined with their team dance score.
Apolo & Karina: The team looks to overcome the slip-up they had last week with their samba to “Give it to Me Baby” by Rick James. The crowd loves the energetic, sexy dance. Carrie Ann thinks Apolo’s legwork is fantastic, but something is not quite right. She thinks he and Karina need to work together as a team more. Len thought the dance was terrific with great movement and rhythm. Bruno thought Apolo did a great job in a very sexy dance. Scores of 8.5, 9.5 and 9 gives them a total of 27 for their individual routine and an overall total of 56.5 when combined with their team score.
Sabrina & Louis: It’s fairy tale time for this team as they do their elegant waltz to “So This Is Love” from Cinderella. Sabrina is certainly the belle of the ball as Louis spins her around the stage in a routine that ends when the clock strikes 12. Len loved the story that was told in a very charming number. Bruno thought it was like a magical ride into an enchanted kingdom. Carrie Ann doesn’t think Sabrina got the vulnerability she was going for, but it was still elegance personified. Scores of 10, 9.5 and 9.5 gives them a total of 29 for this dance and an overall total of 58.5 when combined with their team dance score.
Team Dance 2:The second team to dance together for some high scores must do their freestyle “Gangnam Style.” That apparently means having several of the men rip their shirts off during the dance. Len thought it wasn’t tight, it wasn’t together, but it sure was fun. Bruno begs for a towel from Gilles and Carrie Ann says sometimes hot messes can turn into crazy fun insanity. Trip 9s gives them a total of 27 for their wild team dance. The team points are added to the ones accumulated in the individual routines that took place the night before. The results are as follows:
Kelly & Valentin’s 27 team points are added to their 24.5 individual points giving them a grand total of 51.5.
Gilles & Peta’s 27 team points are added to their 29.5 individual points giving them a grand total of 56.5.
Kirstie & Maks’ 27 team points are added to their 25.5 individual points giving them a grand total of 52.5.
Emmitt & Cheryl’s 27 team points are added to their 29 individual points giving them a grand total of 56.
