Never feeling content on the tiny Manhattan, Kansas farm where she was born and raised, Vera often dreamed of a life like the ones in Hollywood musicals. Months before finishing high school, Vera ran away from the quiet surroundings of the family farm in search of somewhere faster. Hoping to become a showgirl, Vera ended up in the Big Apple. However after years of struggling, she learned that the road to stardom was an unforgiving one.
