We usually like to talk about the lighter side of New York life in these pages. Fashion and philanthropy and the glitzy lives of the elite. But sometimes, grim reality interferes. Such was the case last night as a fundraising cocktail party at the Mayor's house turned into a terrifying night, when an armed madman opened fire on the party guests. One woman, innocent bystander Annie Morgan of Park Avenue, was killed, but an entire room full of Manhattan society was terrorized.
Up until the shooting began, the evening had been a rousing success. The Mayor is no stranger to big-money donors, and they were seemingly all out in full force for this event, with fun fall fashion the order of the night. One particular partygoer -- a personal guest of Gavin and Olivia Doran -- turned heads in a vintage gold Dolce & Gabana. It was that kind of night.
Speaking of the Dorans, they were the picture of grace under pressure on a night when Gavin was surrounded by swirling rumors of a corruption investigation. You'd have never guessed it to look at them. Maybe they had an idea that by the end of the night, it would be City-Planning Commissioner Pike who would be arrested for having mob ties.
