Mothers and Daughters Light Up Manhattan

Last night, high fashion and philanthropy were a family thing at the annual Mother/Daughter Fashion Show to benefit New York City's homeless centers. Featuring one-of-a-kind styles from almost every major fashion house, the cream of Manhattan society walked the runway, accompanied by their daughters (or in some cases by their own mothers). As it is every year, the Fashion Show was an opportunity to peek in on the family lives of the elite.

Conspicuous (though not surprising) by her absence was Olivia Doran, who is usually not one to miss an event like this, especially one that benefits charity. Of course, this week marked ten years since Ms. Doran's daughter was killed in a tragic car accident, and while Olivia has certainly re-asserted herself in society circles in the years since, one can't be surprised she would opt out of an event like this.

Besides, neither Olivia nor her husband, real estate mogul Gavin Doran, can be expected to be in much of a celebratory mood this week, what with the untimely passing of mayoral chief-of-staff Bill Edwards, who was reported to be a good friend of the Dorans.
